Haverfordwest County gained an impressive victory on the road against Bala Town  at Maes Tregid under lights on Friday night.

Excellent strikes from Ben Fawcett and the retuning Rhys Abbruzzese from injury sealed the valuable three points as the Bluebirds are perched second in the table five points behind leaders Penybont.

This game was billed as a tricky match for Tony Pennock’s men as the Lakesiders had come off the back of defeating champions TNS last time out.

The hosts went close to opening the scoring early as a short corner led to a far post header by skipper Nathan Peate which narrowly missed the target.

Minutes later Alaric Jones’ long searching ball in the box found Corey Shephard who headed inches wide for the visitors.

Shortly before the break the Lakesiders had Christian Norton stretchered off with what looked like a nasty leg injury, he was replaced by Uniss Kargbo as the score remained goalless at half time.

Shortly after the break the visitors broke the deadlock with a superb finish, good build up play saw Fawcett quickly turned on the edge of the 18 yard box, before the striker unleashed an unstoppable curled effort which flew in the far corner past the outstretched keeper Joel Torrence.

In the 83rd minute the visitors added a second as they had a foul tuned down, Greg Walters won a crucial tackle and fed Abbruzzese who drilled a low edge of the area shot which found the bottom corner.

It was a bitter sweet moment for Abbruzzesse as it was his first appearance since an injury, it took him just six minutes to make an impact as he replaced Kyle McCarthy – that moment put the icing on the cake for the delighted Bluebirds.

Pembrokeshiresport.co.uk send their sincere condolences to Haverfordwest County manager Tony Pennock who lost his father earlier this week.
